Idaho Energy Codes Lecture Series
Idaho currently adheres to the 2018 IECC and ASHRAE 90.1 for energy requirements. The Idaho Energy Code sets minimum efficiency requirements for residential and commercial buildings. The energy code benefits homeowners, facility managers, building professionals, energy professionals, code officials, and you— improving building energy efficiency, reducing energy demand and greenhouse emissions, lowering utility bills, protecting consumers, and ensuring safe, comfortable homes and buildings. The intent of this lecture is to identify, assess, and demonstrate methods to assist Architects and Engineers with designing building that meet code compliance as it relates to energy performance.

2023 Schedule
The schedule will be updated as details become available and is subject to change at any time.
November 2nd - 2018 IRC Indoor Air Quality - Jerry Peterson
How tight is too tight? Are newer versions of the energy code creating unhealthy homes? These questions and more are addressed in an inter-active session that reviews current code requirements, ASHRAE standards and best practices for insuring healthy living spaces. Minimum ventilation rates, combustion air for appliances and fireplaces and radon mitigation have to be considered as part of a healthy home design. This workshop takes a "whole house" approach and offers common-sense, cost-effective solutions as well as new and emerging technologies.

November 8th - Commercial Lighting Codes Part 1 - Dylan Agnes
In this lecture we will be reviewing the commercial lighting code section C405.2, minimum requirements for both interior and exterior lighting controls, IECC 2018. Participants will become familiar with lighting terminology used in IECC 2018 and how it correlates with lighting terminology used in AEC industry. Also, participants will be shown how to apply the ‘logic’ of code to their projects as well as which path to take depending on their building type and size. Lastly, participants will be able to explain how lighting controls requirements impact building performance to reduce energy and how that can be presented as a payback period or return on investment.

November 15th - Commercial Lighting Codes Part 2 - Dylan Agnes
In this lecture we will be reviewing the commercial lighting code sections C405.3 to C405.9 for IECC 2018. Participants will be guided through equations presented in the code for lighting power, but also, how to use the building area method or the space-by-space method. In addition, participants will understand the differences between the two paths so they can decide which compliance method would be best for their building type. We will also be discussing the impact lighting power allowances can have for building performance while meeting code requirements or exceptions.
