Description:

The presentation will cover the energy related design and construction aspects of the City of Boise's recently completed Ultra-Low-Energy "Twenty-Mile South Farm" multi-use building. This LEED Gold (projected) building consists of an office building, maintenance shop, parts warehouse, and mechanic shop. In addition to LEED certification, the project is aiming to be Idaho's first Net-Zero Energy commercial building. The project's roof is outfitted with a 56.43kW PV array. Skylar will review the approaches and tools utilized to model and optimize the building's energy performance and how low tech and low maintenance strategies led to a reduction in heating and cooling demand of nearly 90% compared to conventionally constructed buildings. In addition, the rigorous onsite building enclosure testing and verification process will be discussed, as well as how it was utilized to minimize the performance gap between the energy model/design and actual building construction.
